How to use this site .... There's only one page, with four major sections, Best Desktop, More Desktop, Selected Topics, and Other Stuff (identified by diferent background colours). So, browse by scrolling down; or, jump to selected topics using the drop-down menus at the top of the page; or, if you prefer to search by keyword, use 'Find in Page' (Ctrl F - best to drag the search window to the right) then enter a keyword e.g. expert; or finally, use the search window below:
Given the rate at which information on the Internet is increasing, we're all "confronted by insurmountable opportunities" as Walt Kelly's POGO once noted. But information is only really useful to us when we need it - at other times, I submit, it's merely noise.... My approach to dealing with this has been to try to develop simple, personal JITIS (Just In Time Information Systems) - actually, I've come up with, and discarded, quite a few over the years - this is one of the latest.
The idea of this simple site is that it serve as a 'mini-portal' for me and for colleague ITAs - a JIT access to Internet resources that have proven useful to our peers. You might consider it a Toolbox consisting of a moderated Bookmark list (moderated through recommendations and feedback from colleagues). Note that it's also a testbed for me to try out different methods of delivering such information - so please cut me some slack!
